Cerita Situ Bagendit ini dapat dikatakan sebagai sebuah legenda, karena cerita ini menceritakan terjadinya suatu tempat di Jawa Barat bernama Situ Bagendit. Begini terjemahan ceritanya: Pada jaman dahulu kala hiduplah seorang wanita bernama Bagendit di dekat Sungai Patenggan.
